Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States
We do this by:
1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

I grew up owning Doxie dogs and my husband and I have talked about getting a dog after our kids leave the house, well in 2011 my oldest sister passed away and that was pretty hard on me and they live in Michigan while I live in Alaska and it's 30 plus years that my dad has passed away. So Christmas of 2014 while everyone was opening gifts and everyone had a great time and I had bought my husband this nice smoke I had gotten a potato smasher and some shampoo from him and the kids, well I was gracious but mad, he made an excuse to run to his moms and I was on the phone with my mom telling her what had happened and while she was talking to my son while I was finishing dinner I hear him say it's about to happen now and I turn around (still mad) and say what is about to happen and he walks up the stairs with the kennel and a little Black and Tan dog that looked exactly like my dads dogs that I can remember, I started crying, my mom was crying (over the phone) I said oh mom he looks like a Sammie (my dads name is Samuel Miles, and all of our dogs have been named Sam of some sort) my husband said oh I have 1 better for you hands me his birth certificate and Sammie's bday is the date 10/25 my dad passed away and that happens to be our middle daughters bday as well. When I told my mom and sister the dates they said well he must've been sent to you for a reason.
Sammie never leaves my side and is very protective of me and has been that way since day 1. I love my little boy ❤️
