Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States

We do this by:

1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.

2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.

3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.

4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.

5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

Pet's Story
Sookie, Maddy and Gus are our three LOVEABLE Dachshunds who we couldn't imagine our days without. Despite the regular digging in the back yard and ever evolving need for treats, We miss when when we are away as they bring smiles to or faces and have many stories to share.

Sookie was a rescue from an unexpected litter that one of my former student's male dachshund had created. She is the most loving and treats them all like a mother.

Maddy was a rescue from a family at 6 months old who said they just didn't know how to take care of her. I couldn't let her be dumped so I drove over an hour to pick her up and have lived her ever since.

Gus has a mysterious backgrounds he was picked up by animal control at about a year old. He had been wondering the streets and fields in my nearby hometown area and it was very apparent he had not ever been in a house when we adopted him. I couldn't let him be put down with such a sweet face and he has truly brought some life back into our girls. He LOVES to play and get toys out of his box and leave them all over the house.
