Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States
We do this by:
1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

Pet's Story
Poodle's first family had been trying to potty train her but she became a burden and they kept her crated all the time. She developed a skin disease from being kept in a dirty crate. They decided to take her to the pound and give up on her for she had lost all her hair and was smelly from the skin condition. As luck would have it while on the way to the pound their car broke down in front of a shop my friend owned. He saw Poodle and when he heard her fate he called me knowing how I love Dachshunds. I came and got her and took her home where with love and caring she has blossomed into the fabulous dog she still is today. Her name had been Doodle but my father misunderstood and thought it was Poodle and what a funny name for a Dachshund. Well, she did become a Dachshund named Poodle and has been our princess for 12 years now. Her birthday is July 4th and she loves the fact that the whole country celebrates her birthday. She is the star of my life. She will also star in children's books that I am writing about her many adventures being a Dachshund named Poodle.
