Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States
We do this by:
1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

Pet's Story
My Minnow is 15.5 years old. She has a hitch in her get-a-long making it hard for her to take walks with her sister Dottie (the dapple). It killed me to give Minnow a little pat on the head prior to taking her younger sister for a walk as Minnow loved her walks until she began to decline with her mobility (and having incontinence issues too!) My daughter kept telling me "get Minnow a stroller Mom, she loves walks too!" So I did! It was the best $10 purchase I made from a neighbor's garage sale! I load Minnow up in her stroller and Dottie walks nicely beside us but soon becomes HIGHLY jealous of her sister who is enjoying the walk while riding in her stroller relaxing! As a result, Dottie begins to lag behind ON PURPOSE! Pretty soon after this happens, I feel sorry for Dottie! I pick her up and place her in the stroller next to Minnow. They ride together as I push them both now in the stroller. Dottie and Minnow love to bark and growl at anything and everything we come across including humans, humans with dogs, squirrels and rabbits! Yes indeed, what a sight to see is two ferocious wiener dogs riding in the baby stroller!! Yes, don't mess with them! Both act like they are the "top dogs" in the neighborhood now!! I hate to admit it, but my two fur babies have their mom very well trained! I love Minnow and Dottie to the moon and back!! :-)
