Dharma Rescue for Cats and Dogs is a nonprofit organization based in southern California EIN 80-0266821. In 2008, after caring for many cats and dogs, the founders began the organization with the hopes of restoring dignity to abandoned canines and felines. Their mission is to rescue dogs and cats, especially those that are elderly , sick and disabled, from kill shelters and provide them with the best quality of life. Dharma Rescue provides its animals with shelter, spaying and neutering, medical care and rehabilitation; and when they need assistance to walk, they are fitted for a specialized wheelchair.
In 2013, Dharma Rescue initiated the D.A.W.G.S. program, which stands for Disabled Animals Who Generously Serve. Through this program, certain dogs go through training to become therapy dogs and provide comfort to those in the local community.
