Found all alone in an apartment stairwell on August 19, 1999, I brought this beautiful 4 week old male kitten home and named him Cookie. When I brought him to the local vet the next day, it was decided that his birthday would be July 20, 1999. On Saturday, July 2, 2011 (just 2-1/2 weeks shy of his 12th birthday) , I brought him to the vet to see why he was drinking so much water and losing so much weight. That is when they told me that he was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then, he's been on insulin (Lantus), 1 unit every 12 hours, and a strict wet food diet. Now, he is 15 years old and doing very well for his old age. He brings me great joy every morning with his loud, hungry meows at around 6:00 am.
