Deer (left) is a diabetic cat who is now in remission! He was adopted in early 2013 after we had fostered him, and then he was returned in May of 2014 in very rough shape: he had newly diagnosed diabetes, had lost a third of his body weight, and had ketones. We took him back in as a foster, and partly due to support from DCIN, we got him regulated on insulin and feeling much better! In the process of getting him healthy, we fell in love with him and adopted him later that year. He kicked the insulin habit soon after, and he's happy and healthy! He's pictured here with his new friend Ghost, whom we adopted this year. They're both around 13 years old and are super cuddly and sweet.
