I saw Pooka’s sweet face on a post from DCIN in the summer of 2017. He was rescued by an amazing group in GA that needed someone experienced with diabetic cats to take on his complicated case. We had him flown up to MA and now, a year later, this handsome diabetic boy with concurrent chronic pancreatitis is happy, healthy, and a little bit chubby 💕. He has taught me so much about managing the two conditions together. He has taught me to never give up, and that yes, even after 12 months, peripheral neuropathy can resolve completely! He also taught me not to hold off on treating dental disease in a diabetic! We considered him not a great surgical candidate when he first arrived because he was a poorly controlled diabetic - but it wasn’t until after his dental surgery that we were able to get him controlled! Chronic inflammation anywhere in the body can wreak havoc with blood sugar.
We are so happy to have this sweet southern gentleman in our lives. Hopefully he won’t mind his 2nd New England winter as much as his first - this year he has a new heated bed to help take the chill off 💕
