At Dog Star Rescue, we're a passionate, volunteer-run organization based in the Hartford, CT area, dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in need. We work tirelessly to rescue loving and loyal pups, both from local owner surrenders and from overcrowded shelters in states like Texas, Georgia, and Louisiana, where they face euthanasia. Our incredible team of volunteers provides these dogs with essential medical and emotional care, helping them transition into their loving forever homes. We're proud to have placed over 7,000 dogs with new families to date!

Our volunteers are the heart of Dog Star Rescue, dedicating countless hours each week, driven by their love for dogs and the personal satisfaction of making a difference.

Born from a grassroots effort by experienced dog lovers, our mission is to guide dogs to a safe passage and a new life. Our name, Dog Star, comes from Sirius, the brightest star in the Canis Major ("Greater Dog") constellation, symbolizing our commitment to being a guiding light for every dog we rescue.
