King is a retired explosives detection K9.

King was originally assigned to be an explosives/attack dog and deploy to Afghanistan, however, because he was not quite aggressive enough and didn't hold his bite long enough but still had a great nose for detecting explosives, he was reassigned to MWAA.

King began his MWAA career with his partner, Cpl James DeVinney in 2011. They quickly bonded and in addition to his normal daily duties, King was frequently called to perform demonstrations at schools, airport tours and other special events.

Around 2015, King started experiencing back pain. After several tests, medications and being sent back to Lackland AFB for possible surgery, King was diagnosed with multiple chronic intervertebral disc herniations and degenerative lumbosacral stenosis and was recommended to be medically retired from duty.

Cpl DeVinney & his wife immediately adopted him and brought him home to enjoy his retirement as their family pet.

Since his retirement in May of 2017, King has slowly been adapting to retired life. While he still is eager to "go to work", he enjoys lounging on the porch, going for short walks and playing with his basket of toys.
