Please describe in detail how this nominee stands out among the other peer mentors in your program.
I am happy to nominate Shaun Sullivan, a Junior attending Saint Joseph’s University for the George Nahodil Excellence in Peer Mentorship Award. Shaun works as both a social and employment coach for students in the Pathway to Authentic College Experiences (PACE) program at SJU. Shaun’s commitment to the students, leadership ability, responsibility to his duties, enthusiasm and ingenuity in creating fun and meaningful social experiences for the students, make him the best choice to receive the award. Shaun’s commitment to the students in the program stems from the fact that he is, in fact, enrolled in the PACE program himself. Beginning his freshman year, Shaun began organizing social activities for himself and his fellow students. His kindness and willingness to include everyone is a testament to his character and highlights his leadership capabilities. During his sophomore year, Shaun organized off campus lunches and dinners and trips to sporting events, inviting not only students in the PACE program, but also other SJU students who had an interest in attending. The PACE team took notice of Shaun’s leadership and commitment and hired him as both a social and employment coach in his junior year at SJU. Managing these new responsibilities along with his course load may have proved difficult for some, but Shaun rose to the challenge, and has become a role model to both students in and out of the PACE program. I cannot think of a better peer mentor to receive the George Nahodil Excellence in Peer Mentorship Award. Shaun exemplifies excellence in his role as a peer mentor through his commitment to the students, leadership abilities, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
