Your Pet's Bio/Story
Kayla passed away in 2009 but we had 13 wonderful years together. I got her from a person who could not care for her, never mind the fact that her right hind leg had been recently amputated. She had been hit by a car.
Recovery took time but a loving, smart, active pup emerged. Housebreaking was a breeze since he loved the back yard. Her 16 pounds of energy played incessantly despite her missing leg and I soon realized she had "people potential". She was drawn to kids of all ages and we lived close to a high school. I contacted the special education department to suggest that dog walking might be an entry level job for a disabled student.
For two years she "taught" several students the responsibilities of dog walking from securely fastening a leash to following a prescribed route through the neighborhood.
She was their hero.
