Pet's Story
Emancipet vet tech Kim Martin rescued Stella from a high kill shelter outside of Houston. Stella was nearly hairless, nursing a littler of puppies, and heart worm positive. Kim fostered her, bringing her back to the healthy, wiggly, and loving girl she is today. When Kim was ready to look for Stella's forever home, Kim put out the word on Facebook. Amy Mills shared Stella's story and photos, and I saw this post early one Saturday morning in July. My family and I had been looking for the perfect dog to add to our family; we have one elderly pibble who'd lost his sister in February, and he (and we) were lonely for a second dog. I fell in love with Stella's tall ears, snuggly hippo face, and round little belly. Kim brought Stella to our house in August, and we all (including our other dog) fell madly in love. Stella has completed her treatment for heart worms and is healthy, happy, and extremely waggy! She likes playing with her stuffed giraffe, eating treats of any kind, and going on walks. She's still learning to be polite to other dogs when she's on leash, but has never met a stranger off the leash. She went to training at Taurus Academy, and some of the staff cried when she left because she charms everyone she meets with her smiley hippo face!

Stella is the best snuggler in the world, too! If you have had a hard day, she will fall head over paws into your lap or snuggle on the bed or on the couch with you until you feel better. Sometimes, she falls asleep on her back with the paws in the air while you rub her belly! Stella is the sweetest, best good girl, and our whole family is so lucky to be her caretaker.

What Emancipet means to you and your pet
There is no way we would have found Stella without Kim Martin. She lives the values of Emancipet in caring for foster puppies who would otherwise be euthanized, especially ones as sick and weak as Stella was. We've supported Emancipet in the past because we believe in their mission of giving people the freedom to welcome pets into their families, but I never dreamed that Emancipet would help us find our sweet girl.
