Pet's Story
Sophie came to us from the Austin Humane Society. She and her kitten-sister, Dot, have been our joy. Dot came to us as another rescue, a few weeks after Sophie. Sophie and Dot took to each other like they were from the same litter. When Dot got sick when she was around 11 months old, she had several hospital stays and while there, she gave up on life. We brought her home for one last night, but she and Sophie were so glad to see each other that, after Sophie gave her a thorough bath, Dot had a bite to eat--the first she'd willingly taken in a couple of days. We cancelled the euthanasia, and Sophie helped us nurse Dot back from the edge while we continued to seek a diagnosis. LOTS of research, vet appointments, tests--and money--later, we ended up with a diagnosis of kidney disease. We'll never cure it, but we have learned how to manage it, and Dot and Sophie have remained best friends and playmates through it all. Sophie is now nearly twice as big as Dot, but that doesn't stop her from crowding into the tiniest space in Dot's bed and licking Dot's head until she moves over and makes room for her cuddle-buddy. They are frequent models for their mom's adoring photographs, but their personalities are very different. Sophie is a ham--she's curious, playful, and is often doing the funniest things. Her photos always show her on the go, in the midst of her playful exploration. Dot is a great beauty--her mom's friends call her the feline Grace Kelly. Her photos are often beautifully posed, head and tail at the perfect angle, eyes staring back at you, daring you not to fall in love.

What Emancipet means to you and your pet
Sophie and Dot want to raise money for Emancipet because they know some kittens' families can't pay big vet bills even though those families love their pets as much as Sophie and Dot are adored by their own family. We chose Sophie's photo because we know that the secret ingredient that saved Dot's life was Sophie's love.
