My Story
At the 20-week pregnancy check-in, we were told that our baby had a severe heart condition that they believe to be hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The left side of her heart was too small and, depending on her growth over the next few months, she would require multiple surgeries. Jessie was born on July 26, 2023 with a final diagnosis of severe Coarctation of the Aorta. As serious as her condition was, we found so much to be thankful for. The left side of her heart had grown, and she weighed 6lbs 10oz, far bigger than we feared.

Soon after, Jessie had open heart surgery at 13 days old at MUSC in Charleston, SC where the medical team enlarged her aorta, and fixed a whole in her heart. She spent 37 days in the Cardiac NICU, where we learned how to care for and love our baby girl even in the hardest of circumstances. We are so thankful for the kindness and reassurance that the entire medical team displayed toward us. Now, at one year old, Jessie is the definition of joy, with a smile that brightens up the room. God has blessed us beyond belief with every step of Jessie’s life and we look forward to telling all about God’s love and grace for her. We love you, Jessie!!
