Before Louis, there was Truman, a funny-looking Dorkie who packed a universe of love into a small body. His trademark was "prairie-dogging": sitting upright on his haunches and shamelessly surveying the room until everyone was admiring him. When Truman died, the grief was overwhelming. For a long time, I wasn't looking for another dog; I was looking for Truman.

Then Louis, a miniature Dachshund, came into my life. He isn't Truman, nor should he be. But he embodies everything I loved about him—only tenfold. Thanks to Louis, my lap and my heart, are full again.
