Photograph Description
There are times when it is said that "art imitates life." This image of the Oculus in lower Manhattan instantaneously evoked the connotation of being deep within the belly of a great leviathan. Much like what Jonah must have seen, standing at the top of the escalator in the Oculus station makes one feel as if they are about to descend into the belly of a great beast, with its ribs high above you, making you feel infinitesimal in comparison. This beautiful structure rose from the ashes of the 9/11 attack. The image of this new Manhattan icon provides a point of view of the subject that simply makes one feel tiny in the face of the grandeur of the city, as you descend both figuratively and literally into "the belly of the beast." EXIF: Olympus OM-D E1-Mark II, Olympus 7-14 zoom at 7mm, 1/160, f5.0, ISO 1600.
