Photograph Description
I photographed this jaguar (Panthera onca - IUCN: Near Threatened) on a trip to the Pantanal wetland region of Brazil. The Pantanal presents challenges for photographers, including often extreme differences in light levels between sunlit areas and the shade of the Pantanal forest. When I saw this jaguar come out of it near the water, it stood for a moment by a tall tree, gazing. The afternoon light filtering through the thick vegetation complements the jaguar and looks like a portal to another dimension.
