Photograph DescriptionI photographed this giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis - IUCN: Endangered) on a trip to the Pantanal wetland region of Brazil. Giant otters have been classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to hunting, overfishing, their small and fragmented population and low reproductive rates. This otter must have been in a fight as it had a wound over its left eye. It suddenly emerged from the river with a fish in its paws, which the otter proceeded to eat avidly: I was lucky to capture the moment from a low angle.
