I took this photograph from a zodiac boat in Eastern Greenland on a rainy day: while we were following the rocky coastline, we spotted a polar bear higher up on the cliff. The bear stopped walking for a moment to sniff the air and get a better understanding of its surroundings. It happened to do so in a very colorful section of the cliff, standing atop a rock immediately next to a carpet of vibrant red and yellow lichens, which added welcome color contrast to an otherwise mostly grey landscape.
