I am a...Professional/Serious Amateur
Photograph DescriptionHere is a reverent, documentary-style photo of our family's industrious Gido—the Arabic word for grandfather. I photographed him here at age 103, doing his bookkeeping, a habit he remained committed to throughout his life. He had an unfailing passion for business and took pride in staying sharp. At the time this photo was taken in 2014, he and his wife, Ann, were known to be the Longest Married Couple in America—married 82 years. And this is a peek into the second-floor at their beloved beach house in Fairfield, CT. I’ve always liked the soft foreground framing, with Gido at his desk in his squeaky chair, surrounded by his books and just enough order to get the job done. This peaceful Saturday morning moment speaks loudly about who he was: focused, humble, ever diligent, and devoted to the rhythm of work he treasured.
