My son Thomas’ favorite day of the year is our cherished annual Memorial Day Parade in Downtown Fairfield. He stood through the entire parade, proudly waving to each one of our beloved service members. This moment - one I think of as “The Salute” - made my heart overflow with joy. It felt as though he instinctively understood the significance of the moment, a quiet expression of generational respect, wrapped in pure innocence. It’s a memory I will hold close and treasure for years to come.
