Photograph DescriptionHurricane Sandy blew into Fairfield with a vengeance on October 29, 2012. A few of us stayed in the Beach Area to ride it out and to be able to assess the situation straight away after the storm. We woke up the morning of October 30th to a Venice-like neighborhood. The streets were all flooded with water 3-5 feet deep. My neighbor and I took our kayaks out for a surreal paddle throughout the area of Colonial Dr, Beach Rd, Carlynn Dr. I snapped this picture from inside my kayak looking up Beach Rd. It was a pivotal day in Fairfield, as the landscape of the Beach Area was forever changed because of that storm and the extensive flooding and damage it caused to hundreds of homes.
