I took this photograph on a trip to Eastern Greenland, when some of the passengers of the boat that I was on went kayaking before a blue ice glacier front. The blue color suggests that it was older, deeper and denser ice which absorbs red light wavelengths and reflects blue light. This cool-toned backdrop nicely contrasted with the warm red and yellow colors of the kayaks, while the sequence of white crevasses on the glacier's surface provided a distinct texture and pattern. Including the kayakers in the shot also helped give a sense of scale.
