Why do you love your rescue pet?
We found Pogues last summer as a stray lying next to Pogues Run, a creek that runs on the Near Eastside. Pogues (the dog) was initially a little dodgy and grumpy but we were able to capture him, all 80 lbs of him, without falling into the creek.

I took him home with me but was unable to find his owner. I quickly learned what a sweet old man Pogues is. I also soon discovered that big old chunky dogs can still be wily escape artists, when Pogues busted out of my fence twice and even escaped out a basement window. However, Pogues finally realized he was home at my house and decided to stay put.

Pogues tested positive for heartworms (not surprising since he was hanging out at a virtual swamp). He completed the treatment a few months ago and had to be kept quiet during his recovery, which was no easy feat for such a ramblin' guy.

Over the months I have had him, Pogues has bonded to me like Gorilla Glue. He dances when I get home (as well as a chunky old man can dance), is always close to my side, and sleeps next to me in bed every night, If I accidentally bump him in the night, he will let out a sigh and a grunt, but never gets grumpy. He routinely makes a variety of old man noises, including hacking, grunting, and sneezing.

Despite all that, old man Pogues has won my heart.
