Why do you love your rescue pet?
Niko was found outside as a stray, in the Midwest winter, when he was just a baby. From there, he was kept for a week, then turned in to a (kill) shelter. By the time he came home to Indy, he was just 10 weeks old. He had diarrhea every hour for two months and was full of parasites, and cried all night, but we knew he would be a great dog. And he is!

Niko is smart and loving and makes us laugh every day, especially with those Yoda ears! This fuzzy goofball just turned 11 on New Year's day. He had surgery last summer due to a tumor in his spinal chord, so he now has decreased back leg mobility, but that doesn’t stop him.

Before surgery, he had earned several AKC (American Kennel Club) titles (FastCats Fcat5, Fit Dog Gold, Achiever Dog, Farm Dog, Canine Good Citizen advanced & urban, Tricks, AKC Temperament). Today, he still competes in scent work competitions (with over 50 titles, including AKC Detective) - we just stumble a little more and wear non-skid socks! Niko also volunteers as a certified therapy dog where children read to him at libraries. He's opened our eyes to things we never imagined we could do together.
