A little about me...In 2014, I was in a deep transition in my life and decided it was time for a feline companion. I met Kai at a local rescue event, and when I asked about her story, they told me she’d been found under a car as a kitten and was likely separated from her mother far too early. They said she needed a quiet home and had already been adopted and returned several times. At the event, her demeanor carried a kind of resignation, as though she believed she’d always be waiting for a home. That got me, and I scooped her up immediately.
The first thing she did when we got home was jump onto my bed and fall asleep on my pillow. After an hour or so, she woke up and began loudly meowing at the bathroom sink. I realized she wanted me to turn the faucet to a drip so she could drink. Our bond — our rhythm together — was established almost instantly.
Kai’s sassiness revealed itself quickly, but it only deepened her personality. She carries the perfect tuxedo-cat energy. Needy but highly independent at the same time. Sweet but also a bit rough. I am a sucker for contradictions so we were perfect for each other. I feel so lucky to have been on this journey with her and grateful for all she has seen me through.
Kai is too old to jump onto the bathroom sink anymore, but every now and then, I still lift her up there for a quick drink.
