We adopted little Honey through Forte Animal Rescue a few years ago. Our neighbors had been fostering Honey and she just loved our pup Peppermint who we had had just over a year at that point. It’s funny in retrospect because Honey is much more of a “people” dog and almost never gravitates towards other dogs. I was working on convincing my husband (then my boyfriend) that Peppermint needed a sister and we should adopt Honey. He was concerned about becoming a two-dog household and whether it would be too much and while we were debating Honey got adopted by another family who was not in our development. We were devastated because Peppermint had loved playing with Honey so much at our dog park and we had still been considering adding her to the family.

Well the next day, our neighbors showed up again at the dog circle and to our surprise, Honey was back! The other family had given up on Honey after one day when she allegedly was “a little nippy” and didn’t sleep in their bed the first night. We knew fate had intervened in our favor, we immediately put in motion the paperwork to officially adopt Honey, and less than a week later she officially joined the fam! The girls have been inseparable ever since, and guess what? Honey happily slept in bed with both of us and her sister from the first night.

Both dogs were the “ring barkers” in our wedding two years ago and everyone comments on how beautiful they both are and even though they are different breeds, their similar coloring and close bond really make them seem like sisters!
