Friends of Rescue (FOR) is a 501c3 non-profit, non-breed specific dog and cat rescue in North Alabama. FOR was formed in 2009 as Friends of Retrievers Rescue. In 2012, to reflect a greater purpose, we became Friends of Rescue. In 2015, we were able to save more than 1000 animals in need!
It is estimated that between 6 to 8 million cats and dogs enter shelters every year. These numbers are daunting. FOR made it our mission to focus solely on those animals. We primarily support three local shelters - Athens/Limestone Animal Shelter, Huntsville Animal Services and Scottsboro/Jackson County Animal Shelter. We have liaisons who volunteer at each of these facilities to assist with our animal intake. When an approved foster home offers to host an approved animal, the animal is pulled from the shelter, then receives an examination and any needed vetting from a licensed veterinarian. It is then listed for adoption. Our foster homes provide love and care until the animal is adopted to a FORever home. The cycle begins again. We are FOR rescue.
