Tell us a little about your pet(s) and your photo.
Jax was rescued for an animal shelter almost a year and a half ago. He met almost none of the criteria I had in mind for the dog I wanted but luckily he knew better! A short meet and greet and it was love at first sight. Unbeknownst to me, the shelter had been concerned because he was very skittish and untrusting of people. He displayed none of this around me on our first meeting. I took him home and he has turned into a fine dog. He is still skittish around new people but once he warms up, he's incredibly affectionate and loving.
I couldn't understand everyone's concern when I told them I got a Jack Russell/Whippet mix (according to his shelter paperwork). I had no idea what I was getting myself into. At 4-6 months old, he was still a puppy and a bundle of energy. Daily walks and some personalized training have calmed him down significantly. When the weather keeps us inside, a good game of ball toss in the basement along with some agility exercises and all is good.
His two favorite things to do are geocaching and camping. If he sees me getting ready for either activity, he can barely control his excitement. I was initially concerned about his size, having never owned a "small" dog before but he has turned out to be a real trooper. No matter how long the walks turn into or how dense the grass gets, he always is ready to go and pushing thru to help get to that geocache!
He's not all energy now and we often enjoy snuggling on the couch at night or on the weekends. In true dog fashion, if I am not feeling well, he seems to sense that and keeps his energy in check.
