Founded in 1884, the Gifford Cat Shelter in Brighton, MA was a pioneer in creating an environment that does not confine animals to small, movement-restricting cages and does not practice routine euthanasia.
Our mission is to provide a safe haven for abandoned, stray, abused, neglected, unwanted and injured cats with the goal of finding them permanent loving homes. We uphold this mission through providing food, housing, and veterinary care in an outstanding cageless environment. We are unique in our emphasis on admitting stray/rescued cats and special needs cats and providing them with prescription diets, medication, veterinary treatment and surgery as needed.
Our adoption program includes careful screening, with 1 to 1 counseling sessions and careful reference checks. On-site adoption ambassadors assist potential adopters by providing information about each cat's personality and needs.
The Cutest Pet Contest is a part of A Feline Affair, this year’s theme Spring Soiree, is our largest annual fundraising event and includes live music, food, a Silent Auction, a raffle, and a video presentation. Since all of our support comes from fundraising and private donations, the success of this event is critical in helping us to provide food, housing, veterinary care, and medication to hundreds of cats each year.
