SOMETIMES THE ONES WE RESCUE END UP RESCUING US.
Juice Box Wilson was a tiny 5-pound street dog found under a bridge in Oakland—starving, covered in awful sores, with no hair, and barely hanging on. He was silent, fading fast.
When I lost my beloved Barbie Girl, my heart felt empty. I wasn’t sure I could love like that again.
Then Juice came into my life. Fragile and hurting, just like me. Hearing and visually impaired, he didn’t wag, bark, or play. He simply stayed close. Slowly, his fur grew back and the sparkle returned to his foggy, glossy old eyes. In those quiet moments, we both began to heal together.
Juice was saved by Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, which gave him a second chance. Haven Humane Society supports seniors like Juice through its own senior adoption program and Pal’s Fund, which covers adoption fees for older and special-needs pets.
Please consider adopting or fostering a shelter pet—you’ll save a life and gain a furever friend.
