Rules

Eligibility
  1. Pet parents should reside in Hamilton, Burlington or surrounding areas to submit. 
  2. Pets must be adopted from a rescue group, for example the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA or other animal rescue, humane society, or SPCA, or charity, and cannot have appeared in a previous Rescued Calendar.
  3. The fee to enter a picture of your pet is $20, and also includes a calendar which will be mailed to you in the Fall of 2019. One (1) photo may be submitted per entry fee. Please note that the fee to enter is not eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
  4. Please include your pet’s name, age, and a few sentences to tell us about your pet.
Voting
  1. Animal lovers are invited to vote for their favourite photo submission. A vote costs $1. A minimum of five (5) votes, or $5 must be purchased at a time. There is no upper limit to the number of votes you may purchase. Persons who purchase 20 votes for $20 or more will receive a calendar in the Fall of 2019. You can vote for your own photo.
  2. Please note that vote purchases are not eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
  3. The photo submission and voting is open from Wednesday May 22, 9:00 AM – Friday June 7, 11:59 PM.
The Photo
  1. Photos submitted for the calendar must include at least one (1) animal who is the focus of the photo.
  2. There can be multiple animals in the photo, so long as at least one (1) of the animals is a rescued pet.
  3. Photos must be in landscape format.
  4. No identifying images of people are permitted to be in the photos.
  5. Please ensure that the photo is sharp and in focus with a clean background.
  6. Photos taken by professional photographers must have the written permission of the photographer to have the photo reproduced in the calendar.
  7. Photos must be high quality, taken at maximum resolution, in a generally accepted file format. Please note: some phone photos will not meet these standards. If submitting a phone photo, please ensure that your image is captured at the highest possible resolution setting. Only digital photos can be accepted (polaroids or print photos cannot be accepted).
  8. If your photo wins and is not of sufficient print quality, a representative of the HBSPCA will reach out for a high res photo. If a print quality photo is not provided by the entrant, the HBSPCA reserves the right to move on to the next runner up.
  9. Pets should appear as follows:
    • If cats or small animals are in photographs taken outdoors, they must be shown in a safe environment (an enclosure or catio or with a harness on).
    • TNR or barn cats who are microchipped, spayed/neutered and ear tipped may be shown outdoors without an enclosure.
    • Domestic birds must only be shown indoors.
  10. The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA adheres to the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare and is opposed to practices that prevent animals from expressing natural animal behaviours. Photos should feature comfortable, happy and safe animals. The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA reserves the right to disqualify photos with objectionable content.
The Calendar
  1. There are 14 full pages/months to be won (November 2019 – December 2020). There are six (6) months allocated to dogs, six (6) months allocated to cats, and two (2) months allocated to birds or small species. The cover will be at the discretion of the HBSPCA. The cover photo will be awarded to a pet adopted from the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.
  2. By submitting a photo, you agree and give permission to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA to use the name, story and photo of the animal entered in future various publications and materials, both print and digital, including the 2020 Rescued Calendar.
