Rules

To enter the contest, follow the steps at animalcenter.org/petcalendar. These steps ask you to submit certain information about your pet and about yourself, and then upload your photograph. The requested information includes brief responses to questions about your pet. To be accepted into the Contest, you must provide all the requested information.

Submitted images and written responses must be original creations of the entrant. By entering the contest, the entrant warrants that the photograph and description submitted are original, that they are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph and description, and that they have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity. The entrant also warrants that the photograph does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal proprietary rights of any individual.

Written descriptions must be in English. Helen Woodward Animal Center reserves the right to reject any contest submission if it does not meet the eligibility requirements described later in these rules, or for any other reason at our sole discretion. If your entry is rejected, it will be removed from the contest website and you will be notified by email.

You must complete a separate registration for every photo you wish to enter. Keep in mind that you cannot combine votes from separate photos/entries. You must use the process described at animalcenter.org/petcalendar to enter the contest. We are sorry but we will discard any photos sent to us by email or by U.S. Mail. Once submitted, your entry cannot be deleted from the contest.

The contest ends at 10:00 PM Pacific Time on Wednesday, November 1^st, 2017. Please be advised that winners are determined by vote counts as of 10:00 PM on the 1st. If a vote does not register at that time it will not be counted.


The Contest is subject to all applicable national, federal, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Contestants who are 14 and under may participate in the contest with their parents' or guardians' assistance.


The Contest is limited to the following pets: dog, cat, rabbit, certain equines, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, mouse, rat, and birds. Ferrets, wild animals that are either captured in the wild or bred in captivity, and other types of animals, such as those commonly kept as farm animals, are ineligible to be entered into this contest. We allow the following types of equines: horses, burros, donkeys, mules, and miniature horses. No other equine types are eligible.

No photos with people are allowed.

We reserve the right to remove any image from the contest that are hunting-related, including game, dead animals etc.


Any image that includes content that is deemed inappropriate, indecent, or obscene, as determined by the staff of Helen Woodward Animal Center in their sole discretion, will be removed from the contest. Any image of dead animals will be removed from the Contest. While Helen Woodward Animal Center will remove images at our discretion, we don't always condone the treatment depicted in the images or described in the stories.


Your pet will receive an initial 30 votes (1 vote per $1) during the entry process. After you submit your entry, you will have the opportunity to ask your friends and family members to donate-to vote by sending them the URL for your entry.

Your friends and family can purchase one vote credit for every $1 they donate to support Helen Woodward Animal Center and our programs. Voters must purchase a minimum of 5 vote credits ($5 donation).


The pet with the most votes will be named Helen Woodward Animal Center's Official 2018 Pet of the Year and will be awarded the following prizes:

• Be the first fur face everyone sees as the calendar COVER star. The Center reserves the right to select which photo of the set will be featured on the cover.
• A 30-minute photo shoot with our photographer and cover design. Photo session must take place on site at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
• A full-page feature in the 2018 Helen Woodward Animal Center Calendar
• The opportunity to participate in this year's H.O.P.E. Telethon on live TV
• A special feature in our Winter Companion

The TOP 6 pets with the most votes will also have a full-page feature in the 2018 Helen Woodward Animal Center calendar.

ALL other entries will appear in photomontage squares throughout the calendar.

Each entry is entitled to one copy of the calendar. This copy must be picked up at the Center.


Any pet in the Contest can be located using the "Search Pets" function.


When you enter the contest you warrant that the photograph is original, that you are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity. You also warrant that the photograph does not invade the rights of privacy of any individual, does not infringe on any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity.

Grant rights in conjunction with the Contest. By entering the contest, you also agree to grant to the Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the photograph or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our Pet Calendar Contest. Helen Woodward Animal Center will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity and agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted.

Grants of Rights for Additional Purposes. You agree to grant to Helen Woodward Animal Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright and without notification or payment. Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity.


When you enter Helen Woodward Animal Center's Pet Calendar contest, you warrant that the responses you provide to the entry questions are original, that you are the sole author and copyright holder of those responses, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of those responses to any other person or entity. You also warrant that the responses contain no defamatory material or injurious instructions; does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity.

You also agree to grant to the Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the responses or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our Pet Calendar Contest. Helen Woodward Animal Center will not use your responses for any purpose not connected with this contact and will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity. Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted.


Releases are not responsible for printing, typographical, human or other errors of any kind in any Contest-related materials, or for stolen, lost, late misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries.
