I was working at a Veterinary Hospital that would take in the local dog control dogs. Dude came in as a stray puppy that was diagnosed with parvo. After treatment I decided to foster him to ensure he would be well socialized as most of the time being in the shelter can be very stressful for these poor pups. My husband had lost his old cat, our last rescue dog and his own Mother all in the same year about 2 years prior and unfortunately had not been able to fully heal from the grief. As the days went on with Dude staying with us I noticed my husband starting to connect with him. After several weeks my husband made the statement that he wouldn't hate it if Dude became a member of our family ( that's my husband's way of saying he wanted him ). Dude and my husband have been side by side ever since (going on 6 yrs). I choose this photo because I believe Dude is one of those heros that doesn't wear a cape. He has helped my husband move on from that dark time in his life. Here's to all the other people who have found their own superheroes through shelters/rescues 🦸
