In 2008, we were given a puppy (Shadow) when a friend had to rehome her because she was too rambunctious for their old pooch. We brought her to the vet for a checkup and was told that in order to prevent breast cancer in female dogs, either get them spade before their second heat or let them have a litter of puppies. So we set up an appointment but she went into heat. Once that was done, we set up another appointment but because we couldn't get in quickly enough she went into her second heat. Soooo a little of puppies it was. My brother in law had a male puppy he agreed to breed with her. On March 14th, 2009 the litter was born. She had 6 puppies. 4 girls and 2 boys. I don't think she realized she had one of the males because he was so tiny and I heard a little whine close to her beside me, not where the other puppies were laying in front if me. I felt around under her and found the runt of the litter still in its sack. I opened the sack and showed her the puppy and she cleaned him. We ended up keeping that puppy. The rest were given their checkup and starter shots and rehomed with friends and family. We called the runt of the litter Styles and he has been my little cutie patootie ever since.
