Breastfeeding Story
My mom wasn't able to breastfeed me and I was very worried the same would happen to me. While pregnant with Marko, I read everything imaginable about breastfeeding and attended classes. When Marko came into the world, I felt a sense of relief the first time he latched and started nursing. Then, a sense of panic... is he getting anything? Is his latch ok? ... questions I'm sure every new breastfeeding mom has. I joined the local LLL group and the international LLL facebook support page, and this helped me through the first hurdles and getting the hang of breastfeeding, but I still felt something was off when he nursed with his constant fussiness. Come to find out, he was tongue and lip tied. Although gaining weight by riding the flow of my leftdown, I knew this wouldn't last and if I wanted us to continue to breastfeed, it was important to get it corrected. Though the almost 12 weeks post correction were rough, with IBCLC visits, chiro visits, and mouth stretches, it was worth it! Now, at 8 months, he's still a boob monster and I'm hoping we will continue this journey for a while.
