Rules

Photos of cats, dogs, horses, small mammals and birds are accepted. Your pet does NOT have to be adopted from the Houston SPCA to be eligible to enter this contest. The registration fee is $25 per photo. More than one pet is permitted in each photo. Submitted photos should be of pet(s) only—no humans, please. Photos must be at least 300dpi and at least 1MB in size. Photos must be high resolution (3650 pixels x 2740 pixels is preferred for printing purposes).

Please no filtered/Photoshopped or altered images. Participants may only submit photos to which they have the rights to reproduce. Online entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. CT on September 28, 2018.

The event coordinator reserves the right to request a different photo if the above criteria are not met.

Each registration fee includes one copy of the 2019 Calendar. In-person entries and votes will only be accepted at the shelter until 1:00 p.m. CT on September 28, 2018, at 900 Portway Drive. If you would rather mail your photo, please note that we will be unable to return your photo to you.


Each vote costs $1, and there is no limit to the number of votes one may cast. You must cast a minimum of 5 votes at a time for a minimum charge of $5. You may vote for your own photo. Online voting begins as soon as the photo is registered and ends at 11:59 p.m. CT on September 28, 2018.

In addition to our online system, voting can be done by mail or at the shelter. Mail-in and in-person entries, must be received by ~1:00 p.m. CT on September 28, 2018, at 900 Portway Drive.

Voters must identify the pet and owner's name to make sure a vote is credited to the correct photo. Checks may be made payable to the Houston SPCA.


Prizes will be awarded based on fundraising total. Grand prize will be awarded to the participant who places first. First prize will be awarded to participants placing 2-9. Second prize will be award to participants placing 10-13. Third prize will be awarded to participants placing 14-29.

Due to the limitations of our computer tabulating system, there can be up to a 15 minute delay between when a gift is received/recorded and when it is reflected in the leaderboard. Winners will be notified by email on or about October 15^th, 2018.

Grand Prize: Winning pet will be on the cover of our 2019 calendar.

First Prize: Eight first prize winners will receive full-page monthly placement within the calendar.

Second Prize: Four second prize winners will receive half-page monthly placement within the calendar.

Third Prize: Sixteen third prize winners will receive "above the fold" monthly placement (approximately 1/8 of a page).

• Contest participants are responsible for ensuring that they have the right to submit the photos being entered in the contest. By submitting to the contest, you affirm that you are the photographer, or have been given unrestricted use permission by the photographer, to include the photo.

• Once entered, photos become the property of the Houston SPCA to be used for print and marketing purposes.

*The cut off time for online voting will be solely determined by the host website's server, or the Houston SPCA's business clock if submitted in person. Keep in mind your clock may differ from the clock that determines the ending time
