Why is your dog a hero?
Wilbur is blind and deaf, 12 years old, and suffers from kidney disease. Despite these challenges, he is incredibly calm, cuddly, and remarkably resilient! He regularly trips and bumps into things due to his blindness, but it never fazes him - he always gets right back up to continue exploring. He doesn't quite understand how to play, so whenever he smells another dog he just stands still with his tail vigorously wagging and lets them sniff him. His favorite pastimes include napping on his human's lap, frolicking through grass, and standing next to his Rottweiler big brother!
When we adopted Wilbur a few months ago, he was anxious, bone-thin, and missing large patches of hair. However, his resilient attitude has allowed him to thrive in his new home - he has gained weight, bonded with his family, and grown a luscious coat. Still, Wilbur has given us much more than we have given him. He teaches us to be grateful for the small pleasures in life, to love and trust everyone we meet, and to get back up whenever life knocks us down. He is truly a hero!
