Yoshi, our long-haired Akita, is a goofy panda bear. Luckily, he joined our family before he ended up actually impersonating a panda in a discount zoo. If he were smart, he’d be perfect. For a little while we thought he was communicating with us – his barking seemed so intentional. One day, I asked him if he had any advice for me. Then I tried to parse his barks into dots and dashes in case he was using morse code, but all I got was some nonsense, like “eschewobsfucation” and “bekindtothelessfortunate”.

Although he has no training in snow rescue, if Charlotte got a huge storm with avalanches everywhere, Yoshi would be more than willing to help anyone who needs saving. That’s just the sort of courageous, selfless dog that he is.

Yoshi loves to trot around our neighborhood greeting everyone he meets with an infectiously cheerful tail wag. He has always aspired to a larger role in the community, and he would make an excellent spokesdog for the importance of drinking Rescue Brew. He is not himself a beer drinker, but I can sense his approval whenever I open a can for a wonderful cause like the Charlotte Humane Society.
