We rescued Baxter when he was just a tiny puppy—only 10 lbs—in June 2023. We were at a local watering hole in Denver, NC, when the bartender shared that she had rescued a litter of puppies who had been abandoned on the side of the road. All of them had check-ups, shots, and loving homes lined up except for Baxter. Someone had briefly adopted him but returned him, worried they couldn’t handle a large dog as he grew. Without our knowledge, the bartender asked her daughter to bring Baxter out to the patio where we were sitting. The moment we met him, it was love at first sight for both of us. Today, Baxter is a 130‑lb bundle of love—playful, loyal, and endlessly affectionate. He’s mostly German Shepherd, with Lab, Boxer, and a little bit of mystery mixed in, but more than anything, he’s family.
