Elvira had a very rough start to life. As a small puppy, she was attacked by another dog, and as a result, it stunted the growth of the top of her snout and also left a permanent hole in her sinus cavity. Shortly thereafter, she was surrendered to HES, along with her mother and three siblings. They were all adopted fairly quickly; however, at 9 months old, Elvira (formerly known as Kelsi) remained at the shelter. When I walked in, she immediately stole my heart! Though she was considered special needs, she only looked special to me! The needs part was of no consequence. I just loved her! Besides, I had a special need as well - my 11 year old dog had passed just a few months prior, and I was ready for a new furry friend. She has such a sweet blessing to me and my family. She is so loving to us and very protective. She has no idea how big she is - yep, a 65 lbs lap-dog/princess! I lucked up when I found this pup - she’s everything I could have hoped for and more. I’m not sure what we would do without her!
