Pet's Story or BioBen and I adopted Duck from HSSV in December 2009, just before I began working there. He came to HSSV through our wonderful Regional Rescue program, having been transferred to us from the San Jose City shelter. He had been found roaming the streets of San Jose with his girlfriend, another black lab who was also quickly adopted!
Ben and I jokingly tease about Duck all the time because he is not the world's easiest dog to live with; he has lots of allergies and the most determined "garbage gut" of any dog you'll ever meet. (Seriously, we have to hide the kitchen garbage in another room when we leave the house.) ;)
...BUT, he is also about the most lovable guy I know. He is the self-appointed protector of our 3 other dogs (and our cat and chickens.) We call him DPS, "Dog Protective Services" because he will come running if (heaven forbid) you try to trim the nails of one of his siblings! And Duck was the absolute best medicine and caretaker for me when we had to say goodbye to his older sister, Jesse Bear, one year ago this month.
I can't imagine my life without this "uber goober" (one of his many nicknames). Thank you, HSSV, for bringing him into my family.
Please vote (repeatedly) for Duck. Make a gift in his honor so thousands of other families can have a Duck of their very own.
With love,
Amy, Ben, Duck, Alan, Maya, Satchel, Ronnie, Esther, Feathers, and Plumas!
