Pet's Story or Bio
Winnie was found abandoned as a stray and was all matted. She was estimated to be 10+ years old , had never been spayed, and had been abused. During surgery for spaying she was found to have cancerous growths. We rescued Winnie just before Christmas and learned that she is terrified of confinement and car rides and men. When we got her home, she attached herself to my wife Pat and is always by her side, wherever she goes, and gets upset when she leaves. So, we have been working with her to let her know that she is loved and will never be abused again. Working with a renowned trainer, I give her "high value treats" of fresh chicken or steak and have been slowly gaining her trust to where I can pet her now about half the time and she won't cower or run to mom.
She is, maybe, half Javanese and half Dachshund..we see the scent hound in her every day on her walks as she stops to smell any number of things. She has her quirks like anyone else and she can be stubborn but she is the sweetest little dog who deserves the better life we are trying to give her. We recently rescued a senior cat Tobey, who's mom had to go into an Assisted Living facility and couldn't take him. He lost his home, his mom, his brother, and his whole life and was terrified of the shelter. He started in quarantine because he was biting and hissing at everyone and then started liking female staff but wouldn't let males touch him. I visited him 4-5 times a week to socialize him and he gradually came to trust me. We started by fostering him to see how he got along with Winnie and he has been a model citizen. He purrs, gives kisses, and wants to be with us all the time and is the most loving cat. He and Winnie now have their forever homes where they will never be abandoned or abused again. Here he is as he now waits for his "high value treats" right along with his rescue sister..They are so cute together and we love them both
