Pet's Story or BioMaya was adopted at 1 year old and she is a Newfoundland / Great Pyrenees mix. This breed has a lifespan of 8 to 10 years and this October she will be 11 years old. Unfortunately while walking her recently her rear legs collapsed and she could not stand up or walk. The next day we took her to the Vet and they said she has Degenerative Myelopathy from old age. Maya has good days and bad days but with a little help lifting her hindquarters to take the weight and pressure off of her she can get around but she realizes that she's a senior dog with limitations. We have her on medication for her arthritis and we are trying holistic remedies to deal with her condition. Maya is a very sweet gentle giant and loves children, other dogs large and small, cats and even gently picked up a bird in her mouth and placed it on our doorstep when it hit our window and was dazed until it came to and flew away safe and sound. Maya even became a mother figure to a tiny kitten like Koko the Gorilla with her tiny kitten....like I said a gentle giant although she's only 120 pounds. We are hoping to keep her going as long as we can and to ensure her quality of life is the best it can be.
