Nokomis came to me by chance 9 weeks after I lost my Yellow Lab Emma suddenly at 10 years old. A couple I never met walked into a store I was working in with her and said they were on the way to the pound with her. I asked to hold her and the moment I wrapped my arms around her she sighed and sunk into my chest. After spending some time ( and crying endlessly) with this gentle little soul I decided she would come home with me. While talking to the couple about her story she sat at my feet. When I looked down I noticed that her largest spot was in the shape of a heart. My darling Emma wore a pink heart tag her whole life. It was in that moment I knew she was a gift from Emma to heal and fill my broken heart. In Native American legend Nokomis is the daughter of the moon sent to Earth to help humans learn to live peacefully. I gave her this name to acknowledge and accept the gift that was sent to me from my Emma and Spirit. She has lived up to her name everyday and has been a devoted, loving and soulful companion. The picture was taken two days after I brought her home. She loved to sit in the flower garden and toss up the leaves and mulch. I captured the photo while enjoying her gentle play. You can't help but notice her gentle spirit in those beautiful amber brown eyes!
