Dexter Gregory

Pet's Story or Bio
Dexter Gregory was born at the Humane Society-Tampa on June11, 2014. Dexter's volunteer hours are: 2015-106 hrs, 2016-137 hrs. and 2017- 119 hrs. Dexter's bio is as follows. His mom was rescued from a shelter in Ga. that euthanized and he was adopted at 8 weeks and returned to HTSB when he was 8 months. I volunteer as a dog companion and that is when I met Dexter. I had lost my yellow lab who had been my "coworker" in HSTB's Pet-A-Pet Program and was anxious to continue in that program. I spent time with Dexter and observed him in big dog play group. I asked Dana, a behavioral specialist with HSTB, to screen him for the Pet-A-Pet Program and he passed with flying colors. I adopted Dexter on Feb. 26, 2015. Dexter completed additional training and began his therapy dog career at 11 months. We have weekly visits at Royal Sun Assisted Living and Dexter in now in his 3rd year of being a part of HSTB's Critter Camp. We visit patients at Fla. Hospital, St. Joseph's Bay Care, Bay Care North, Memorial Hospital, Sunset Assisted Luving-Clearwater. Our most recent teaching experiences have been at Lutz, Hunter's Green, McKitrick, Just Elementaries, Davidsen Middle School, and St. John's Presbyterian Pre-School. Dexter is a member of the United States Therapy Dog Assoc., registration #MD700766. We never know the extent of our capabilities until we are given an opportunity and thanks to HSTB, Dexter has been given not only a chance to be of service to his community but a second chance to have a wonderful life.
