Simon
Pet's Story or Bio
My name is Simon. I'm a Chiweenie (Chihuahua - Dachshund) In 2007 I was found one morning tied to the doorknob of the Dubois County Animal Shelter in Jasper, Indiana. I was shy and very scared of men, especially those wearing ball-caps. Two days later a lady visiting the shelter stopped by my pen, I was huddled in the corner. She opened the door and crawled inside to sit with me. She held me and I finally stopped shaking. She applied to adopt me that day and within 24 hours I was headed to my new home.
In 2008 we traded our Indiana Hoosier roots for the sunny days in Tampa, Florida. Although I miss the fall leaves, the snow was never my friend...I always sank in it. I overcame my fears and found that I am very good with other animals, kids and all people. I was certified by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to be an ambassador in the "Pet to Pet Program" and for the past 6 years I have visited nursing homes in Hillsborough County. I have met so many friends who like to hold me and share stories about the pets they have had and miss so much.
Although I am no longer physically able to visit these human friends anymore due to Cushions Disease and its complications the memories are forever. I have passed down my duties to my adopted Chiweenie brother Wilson, who has also been certified in the "Pet to Pet Program" he now takes my place representing our breed!
I was rescued, but I know I was destined to meet my fur-ever Mom and live this truly wonderful life!
