Pet's Story or BioI first met Sylvie at the Petsmart near Southpoint. Shy as she was, she greeted me in the pen. She was considered a senior cat at the time, and because she was timid, she wasn't adopted for a few years even after her brother was. When I had moved out to my own place, I applied to IAR and was approved the day of my home visit to bring Sylvie home from Petsmart in Chapel Hill because I was uber prepared with everything I needed for Sylvie. While hiding under the sheets will always be her safe space, she warmed up to me. Sylvie got me through school, a new job, and relationships. She was the one who approved my husband. Even though I had taught her "paw" for treats, she learned on her own to greet me every time I came home. She had to keep me within her sights and teach me that she was more important than my reading material. Unfortunately, Sylvie passed this January due to abdominal cancer. I miss her constantly, but I hope she's eating all the popcorn, cheese puffs, and hot dog buns she wants now. Sylvie will always be my first pet, and secretly, my favorite.
