Your Pet's Unique Traits
Kai is one of a kind. He loves every person and animal he meets, and his heart is as big as his curiosity. When he first arrived in Michigan, his island-born instincts hunting took over, and he could hardly believe his eyes when he saw his first deer and squirrel.

Kai is always ready for a car ride to explore something new, but he is just as happy to take a walk or curl up for a nap. Most of all, he loves staying close to his people, soaking up scratches and cuddles.

Kai is full of aloha, bringing joy, comfort, and love wherever he goes.

Your Pet's Story or Bio
On my birthday, Kai was surrendered—again—to the Kauai Humane Society. Some would call that coincidence, but in Hawaiʻi, it’s called hopena (fate).

He’s a 1-year-old, 40-pound terrier mix—scruffy, sweet, and unmistakably a “poi dog,” just like many island pups. Kai means sea, and yes—he loves the ocean (and hopefully the Michigan Great Lakes)!

We met him during our trip to Kauai and visited him twice—took him hiking, to the beach, a local brewery, and even across a swing bridge. Unlike a traditional adoption, the Humane Society matched us with him—you don’t choose your dog; the right one finds you.

After a layover in Seattle (complete with a night at a VIP puppy hotel), Kai flew 10 total hours to Michigan to start his new life. We still can’t believe he’s ours—and that we’re his.
